What do we serve?

I do my best to serve meals and snacks according to the food pyramid guide. We all know that children need a balanced diet each day to grow, but sometimes getting that balanced diet can be hard! :) My childrens' doctor has always told me as long as they are getting an overall healthy diet, even it if isn't everyday, sugars, fats, and junk foods are served as a special treat (not as a reward) then they should grow up healthy.
Therefore, I feel it's best to follow the food pyramid guide and offer children the healthy options. I don't force a child to eat or make them eat any cerain food, however they will be offered the foods to eat at each meal/snack time.

Below are some examples of what I may serve. Of course if you child has any special needs like lactose intolerant, etc, I will work with the parent/guardain to offer an alternative.

Breakfast Examples: (served with whole milk)
French toast
Pancakes/waffles topped with cool whip & fruit or jam
Pinto (black beans w/rice and eggs)
Cereal w/fruit (cereal will be Cherrios, bite size frosted mini wheats, rice crispies, etc. No sugary/low nutrition)
Eggs & Cheese Grits
Homemade flavored oatmeal (not instant)

Lunch/Dinner Examples: (served with juice or milk)
Homemade chicken nuggets, corn and applesauce
Chicken & Yellow Rice, peas
Soft tacos (beef or chicken, cheese, lettuce, small amout of sour cream, flour tortilla)
Speghetti (whole wheat pasta), salad, garlic bread
Sweet N Sour Chicken with oriental rice
Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread

Snacks: (served with juice or water)
Bananas or sliced apples with peanut butter
Applesauce w/graham crackers
Celery logs (celery with peanut butter or cream cheese)
Veggies stickes w/ranch dressing to dip
Cheese chunks with crackers
Vanilla yogurt with animal crackers or fruit cut up in it
Homemade muffins or oatmeal cookies

Sometimes dinner will be leftover lunch, other times it will be different. It will dpeend on the days activities and how much I plan to make to use for the evening. Bi-weekly menus will be avaliable on this site, as well as in a printed version. Also, please let me know what your child enjoys to eat, so I can offer them into my menu, as well as encouraging him/her to try new foods they may not know about.
